Ballroom Dancing Instructor – How to become a ballroom dancing instructor?

How do you become one and how much do they pay?

It seems the most popular way is to hire on with one of the chains, though some independents do the same, and have them teach you both how to dance and how to teach and operate the business.
I never actually asked, but I have the impression the kids tend to make around $25k to start, if they work hard at it, or perhaps a bit more.

Depends what country youre in, in some countries you have to get a qualification from the Dancesport association before you can teach, in other countries pretty much anyone can teach without having to gain any qualifications.
If you choose to teach independantly you would get all the money you make from taking lessons, however if you taught within a studio normally what happens is all the teachers give the money they each make from lessons, give it to the studio principal, the principal then equally splits the moeny between all the teaches and keeps some extra for matienece for the studio. Im presuming youre a ballroom dancer so you would know how much lessons cost, so teachers would get most of the amount they charge for lessons.

If you are just starting out as a ballroom dancing instructor, gain some experience by teaching through your county's park and recreation organization. You do not need to prove experience or have certification to teach. Similar to you, I am experience in art but have not taught nor do I have a certification but am scheduled to teach design through my county's parks and recreation this spring.

The pay is not something that can sustain your life on it's own. You can dictate how much you want to get paid. Typically, for a 10 class session, instructors post a fee of $70. Instructors get 60% of that and the organization gets 40%. The organization will help you find a location for you to teach the ballroom dancing class.

Once you have this under your belt, you can start teaching more professionally like through private lessons (post on Craigslist) or through a community college.

Good luck!
