Ballroom Dresses

We are currently in the process of setting up our ballroom shop selling bespoke ballroom dresses. My wife has made dozens of dresses over the years and continues to make them. It would be nice to be able to get some of them out of the house and actually put to use! In the meantime though here’s some general information on the different types of ballroom dress every girl should have!

Modern Ballroom Dress

The first type of ballroom dance dress is a shorter style for a more fast paced and contemporary type of ballroom dancing. This type of lighter dress often has shorter sleeves or halter style leaves or even just flowing sleeves. Strapless dresses are not a good idea when dancing because they are more likely to cause the front of the dress to slide down or fall off when the girl is dancing. So make sure than when choosing these dresses for particularly the more fast paced ballroom dancing that the dress is secure and not going to slide or fall down. These dresses are easier to find and can be purchased at more common stores and could even be a prom dress. Dresses at regular department stores could work as well.

Old Time Ballroom Dress

The second type of ballroom dance dress is the type generally worn for traditional and more slow paced ballroom dances. These dresses are usually longer and flowing gowns. When being fitted for these gowns a woman should wear the shoes that she plans to wear while dancing in order to ensure that the dress doesn’t end up being too long or causing a problem while dancing. These should be tailored to the girl because having the right fit is essential to the dance. Having an ill fitting off the rack dress could cause the dress to impede upon the woman’s ability to perform the dance or end up with the dress ripping or tripping the dancer. Make sure that it fits perfectly before purchasing the ballroom dancing dress.

Latin Dress

The third and last type of ballroom dance dress is the type for Latino ballroom dance. For these very fast paced and leg work intensive ballroom dances a much shorter dress is necessary to allow the audience to see the leg work as well for the dancer to be able to move with ease. These dresses can often be specific to the exact type of Latino dance being performed. Shopping for these dresses can take a long time to find one that works the best for the price, the looks and the best fit for the dance.
