Strictly Come Dancing Week 7

As usual, I have written my report on the weekends shows! I know its late, but I am a busy girl! Please forgive me!

Austin & Erin Well done! a ‘proper’ quickstep, with ‘proper’ quickstep music. I agree with Len – it was “perfection” He got the first 10 of the series. They danced to “S’wonderful”. I am pleased that we are seeing a bit of Austin’s personality now, and thought it was lovely that Erin babysat for him!
Score: Craig 8, Arlene 9, Len 10, Bruno 9. Total 36.

Heather & Brian I personally thought this was an awful cha-cha. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I am confident I could have done a better job of it myself! Her “dress” was disgusting, and I hated the way her hair was flopping all over her face, and I wish to God she would shut her mouth when she is dancing – she looked like a gormless fish!, They danced to “American Boy”, which was a good choice of song, but she did not “sell” it to us in any way, shape or form.
Score: Craig 5, Arlene 5, Len 7, Bruno 6. Total 23.

Jodie & Ian This was the first time I have actually picked up on the “story” that our judges refer to so often. They danced to Dolly Parton, I don’t know the name of the song! They were pretending to be Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, and yes, I could see it, particularly when they were out of hold There were a few footwork mistakes though! But all in all – a good effort. I will say it again – I am hugely impressed with Jodie. Her dress made her look fat though – which I can imagine is not an easy thing to do.
Score: Craig 7, Arlene 8, Len 8, Bruno 8. Total 31.

Andrew & Ola. They danced to Jennifer Lopez – Aint’ it funny. And yes, it was funny – but not in a good way! Poor Andrew. He hurt his knee doing that favourite step of young boys at weddings, “the knee slide”, which meant they had to change the beginning of their routine at the last minute. Samba is hard for people who don’t have the party groove running through them naturally. I loved Ola’s dress. Those old fashioned styles are coming back now in a big way!
Score: Craig 4, Arlene 5, Len 7, Bruno 5. Total 21.

Lisa & Brendan another proper dance tune thankfully! They performed a tango to La Cumparsita, which is one of the more well known Tango tunes. They came out and got straight to the point – no faffing about! Lots of traditional steps, which always goes down well with the judges and the viewing public. I loved it!
Score: Craig 8, Arlene 9, Len 9, Bruno 9. Total 35.

Cherie & James This was not a good dance for Cherie. One consolation though, the dances she will struggle with the most are out of the way now while there were weaker dancers still in the comp. They danced to Gloria Estefan. Like Bruno said, the hottest thing about the performance was the dress. But again, – salsa is actually a lot harder than it looks – I can’t do it, despite trying on lots of occasions! Perhaps if there was not so much going on with the arms, she could have concentrated more on her steps?!
Score: Craig 6, Arlene 6, Len 7, Bruno 7. Total 26.

John & Kristina – Kristina saved him again! They foxtrotted (in a fashion) , to Marilyn Monroe’s I Want To Be Loved By You. I think it is getting to the time for John to hang up his dancing shoes. I will be devastated if someone good goes so he can stay. There was a massive gap between them through the dance, lots of mistakes, and a routine that lacked quite a bit of sparkle, so much so that even Kristina’s silver dress could not redress the balance.
Score: Craig 3, Arlene 5, Len 6, Bruno 6. Total 20.

Tom & Camilla did a Paso Doble to Cutting Crew’s I Just Died In Your Arms. I am sorry, I just can’t take to Tom. The judges argued about the use of the cape. I thought his paso face looked like he had stepped in something smelly! Wonder what the judges are seeing that I don’t??
Score: Craig 8, Arlene 9, Len 8, Bruno 9. Total 34.

Christine & Matt Christine was lovely from the waist up, according to Len, but her legs were a mess! This had so much promise, but I feel like we were short changed along the way. Judges complained about her weak legs, but if all she has ever done on her legs is walk around – she is not going to have dancer’s strength is she! They danced to Singing in the Rain.
Score Craig 7, Arlene 7, Len 8, Bruno 7. Total 29.

Rachel & Vincent danced a Jive to Arthur Conley’s tune Sweet Soul Music. This started well, but lacked any real “oomph” . Rachel got lots of constructive criticism that she will hopefully listen to and work on. It was nice to see Rachel in a dress that was not a blue/green shade. They are such a cute couple, I really hope they get a turn at the top of the leaderboard.
Score Craig 7, Arlene 8, Len 8, Bruno 9. Total 32.

RESULTS SHOW

Quelle Surprise! (not) Heather was in the bottom two AGAIN! And was saved AGAIN!! To the expense of my beloved Ola. (and Andrew, tee hee)

I feel quite harsh saying this but there was not one thing I liked about Heathers dance tonight. She reminded me of one of those dolls with the winding mechanism at the back, her movements were so jerky! If Brian is reading this by any chance, please tone your own dancing down, this could make her look a bit better – worth a try isn’t it? And get her to close her mouth – or at least smile and try to look like she is having fun. She even looks like she has had enough of this dancing lark……

Andrew was definitely not the worst dancer of the night, in fact the worst dancer in my opinion was not even in the dance off! I am not going to talk about him here though.

Andrew showed what a total gent he was in his lovely speech at the end of the show.

The best part about the dance off show was when Flavia and Anton danced together and then Erin and Vincent came on to join them. Really funny when Anton and Vincent did a bit together, and Erin lifted Vincent! A definite “you tube” moment!

What you said about Heather and Brian was uncalled for. It’s one thing to not like their dance, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But to say she looked like a “gormless fish” is going way too far. Do you not realise how offensive that is? Heather is a nervous dancer and tries her best in all her dances. I personally loved her dress, but that is down to the costume department, not her.

As for Brian to tone down his dancing to make Heather look “better” – Brian is a professional dancer and he knows what to do to make a performance work, he has taught many pupils over the years. Are you trying to tell a professional how to do his job?

Heather did look like a gormless fish! In fact I’d say more like a guppy myself, I was just waiting for the dribbling to start.

I think Suzanne is spot on about Brian, on the American version of the show the judges said exactly the same about one of their pro dancers. The program is about teaching an amateur, not showcasing your own skills. For an example of how it should be done take a look at how Kristina dances down to John’s level, I’m assuming that’s what was meant here?

Being a professional does not make you perfect or a know it all for that matter. It just means you get paid to do a job, you can still however be crap ;)
