Stricty Come Dancing Week 6

Week 6 sees us down to 11 couples, and 2 dances:- Paso Doble and Viennese Waltz

The Paso Doble – the Matador, Cape n’ Bull Story

Lisa and Brendan were first off dancing to that famous paso tune “The Eye of The Tiger”, last seen on a film about boxing! I thought it worked very well actually. Some interesting choreography (which is only to be expected from Brendan). Perhaps not quite as enthralling as last week, but I do I think Lisa’s stock is continuing to rise.
Score: Craig 7, Arlene 7, Len 8, Bruno 7 Total 29.

Christine and Matthew. Once again, I was not overly impressed with her. Christine looked very “soft” throughout the dance, and she was not able to convey the attitude the dance requires. She was trying to do a serious “face” but the body didn’t follow. They danced to a Christina Agulera song (can’t remember the name of it!)
Score: Craig 3, Arlene 6, Len 7, Bruno 6 Total 22.

Poor Cherie! She made a mistake right at the beginning of the dance, and it threw her off for the whole thing! The rest of the dance was ok, but not the standard I have come to expect from her. But then again, I know from watching the week’s coverage on It Takes Two, that this was a dance she was struggling with. Quite high scores from the judges though.
Score: Craig 7, Arlene 8, Len 8, Bruno 8 Total 31.

Mark Foster should have had the tune “The Eye of the Tiger” as he is the one who has been boxing all week to build up some aggression! Didn’t quite work though, unfortunately. However, I am probably the only one to think it, but it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. He certainly put the effort in, it’s just that he does not really have the ability. Poor Mark suffers because everyone thinks he “should” be good, purely because he looks so good! They danced to Kelly Clarkson’s “Since you’ve been gone”. The funniest comment was when Craig likened Mark to a “stick insect on acid!” OUCH! That had to hurt.
Score: Craig 2, Arlene 3, Len 6, Bruno 5 Total 16.

It’s a good job John has the Audience on his side!! I suppose it was entertaining in its own way. What I like about this partnership is the way Kristina seems to choreograph with John very much in mind, and she never showboats herself to detract from him. He always looks like he is enjoying himself, which is a big plus on the dance floor.
Score Craig 3, Arlene 6, Len 6, Bruno 6 Total 21.

Jodie and Ian were the last of the Paso Dobles with a dramatic and exciting routine to Song Number 2 by Blur. I personally think it had the most drama out of all the paso dobles, but I think the technicalities and the actual delivery might have left something to be desired. Judges thought it was stompy, and not her best dance – well no, fair enough, but we have seen a lot worse tonight.
Score Craig 6, Arlene 6, Len 7, Bruno 7 Total 26.

The Vienesse Waltz – Get the rounds in!

First to VW were Andrew and Ola. They did a lovely romantic waltz to Annie’s Song by John Denver. Andrew stumbled slightly but recovered well and went on to show us that he has improved a great deal! His bum was back in its right place, he was not towering down at Ola and he kept a good hold. I was impressed by him.
Score: Craig 5, Arlene 6, Len 7, Bruno 6 Total 24.

Austin and Erin’s. This was without question my favourite dance of the night. Send in The Clowns which is from “A little night music”. Beautiful. Craig said it was “flat and cold” – I think he must have been the clown the song is referring to! The others loved it too!
Score: Craig 8, Arlene 8, Len 9, Bruno 9 Total 34.

“Vision of Love” by Mariah Carey was the musical accompaniment to a triumphant return to the dance floor for Heather and her partner Brian. I was so pleased for her after the awful couple of weeks she has had. Fingers crossed the beautiful dance followed by mainly positive comments will give her the much needed confidence boost this lady needs.
Score: Craig 5, Arlene 7, Len 7, Bruno 8 Total 27.

Tom and Camilla. I don’t know why, but Tom and Camilla leave me cold. They danced to Can’t Help Falling in Love with You by Elvis. I don’t really know what to say about this, it bored me. None of the other VW did. Judges seemed to like it though – well – except for Len.
Score: Craig 7, Arlene 9, Len 7, Bruno 9 Total 32.

Rachel and Vincent did a lovely shy little Viennese Waltz to “Everybody Hurts” by REM. But the most memorable thing about this dance for me was Rachel’s dress. It reminded me of when I was a young dancer and would wear those net confections, especially when she was in the room at the back when the net was all up behind the back of her head!
Score Craig 8, Arlene 8, Len 8, Bruno 8 Total 32.
